{ Review | Beauty } L'Oreal Moist Matte Lipstick in Red Valentine

L'Oreal's Moist Matte lipsticks sound too good to be true.

The words moist and matte seem pretty paradoxical to me; in fact, I was pretty convinced it was just one more gimmick trying to sell matte lipsticks as hydrating and/or, at the very least, non-drying. But I found myself proven wrong by these, atleast during application. They glide on smooth, kind of velvet-like. Application is almost similar to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil but a little bit creamier.

L'oreal claims it's formulated with Vitamin E, Argan Oil, and Omega-3. I suppose I can feel that the moment you first apply it. It only applies moist and shiny but it eventually dries to a matte finish. It does tug a little when I apply it, but nothing uncomfortable. It's also kind of heavy on the lips, so one swipe is really all you might want (no, really. More than that and my lips felt like they were going to fall off). Honestly, s'all good and fine because the pigmentation is superb! YES.

Like, with all matte lipsticks, it's always recommended you dab on some balm with your lips and let it absorb. I did just that, but the lipstick refused to adhere to my lips (is it the oils...? How to science??).

I dabbed my lips with tissue, tried again, and it finally worked. Unfortunately, my lips did feel a little dry, but fortunately, that didn't show. No flakes whatsoever throughout wear time; just a tiny bit of discomfort.

After a full day, it lasted a good six hours before properly fading into a nice, natural tint. Honestly, my favourite part about this is the fading. I dunno what that says about the product, really, but atleast you won't really feel the need to touch up! Your lips feel like lips again but the gorgeous color still remains, just a little muted.

Packaging is gorgeousss. The coloured square is pretty accurate to the color of the lipstick itself, so that's a massive plus for me. It's easy to spot in my mess of a bag, too. Also, it looks so unbelievably classy, especially with that L'Oreal logo.

Red Valentine is not red at all. It's actually a gorgeous hot pink shade that would suit all skin tones. It looks very demure on me, but looks shockingly bold on others. I've no clue why? Maybe I just apply light! That would be a real testament to its pigmentation, if that were the case!

Here's it on my lips. I took like a bajillion pictures trying to capture the color right, so just excuse the rest of the picture ok because this was the closest one

  • Beautiful color
  • Great pigmentation
  • Longlasting
  • Fades beautifully
  • Gorgeous packaging

  • Not a fan of the formula
  • Tad expensive at PHP 625.00 (roughly USD 13.00)

Overall, it's a good buy! They should have just called it pink valentine, though, because this is seriously not red. At all. But anyway, I love this color and would wear it again and again. I'm interested in the rest of the colors, too, so I think that's a pretty good sign? (Not for my wallet, tho)

If you're already used to matte lipsticks and its formulas, definitely consider giving the L'Oreal Moist Matte line a try.
